2017 Chosen Charity – Macmillan
At Macmillan, we know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything. So we’re here to support you and help you take back some control in your life. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who’ll listen if you just want to talk, we’re here. We are millions of supporters, professionals, volunteers, campaigners and people affected by cancer. Together we make sure there’s always someone here for you, to give you the support, energy and inspiration you need to help you feel more like yourself again. Every year, nearly 950 people in Huntingdonshire are diagnosed with cancer, and more than 5,200 people are living with and beyond cancer. With more people surviving cancer, we need to do more to support them. Many people have side-effects from cancer and its treatment which can have a huge impact on their life, years after treatment ends. That’s why we’re building a new Macmillan Garden Room at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The new Macmillan Garden Room will provide a non-clinical space where people can access support services to help them feel well during and after their treatment. Located in the courtyard of the Macmillan Woodlands Centre, the Garden Room will host activities that offer emotional and practical support. From meditation to make-up courses, patients and their loved ones can access a range of services to help them overcome the impact of cancer.
